The company announced the new threat in a series of tweets from Microsoft's Security Intelligence account. Tanmoy Gyanacharya, a security researcher at the company, said housebound people are no longer just using the online stream platform to spend time. They are downloading movies from various sites especially torrents. And hackers have jumped at the chance to do their own thing.
They are inserting viruses into the files of some popular movies. One such popular movie is John Wick 3. While downloading this movie from torrent, it contains various files. In one of the files the virus was found. Gadgetsnow reports that the name of this malicious file is "contagio-1080p," "John_Wick_3_Parabellum,". In general, it does not seem to be a malicious file.
However, as soon as you click on that file, the security of your device will break. And crypto-mining malware will come to your device. Then it will start working in the background. You may not even know it is sending all the information inside to the hacker. Also your device will become slow. So be careful when downloading movies from any site and do not try to open any unknown files.
